A Guide to Miyagi Museums

The Miyagi Museum of Art


Location: Sendai

It houses Japanese paintings, oil paintings, prints, sculputures and artistic handicrafts from the Meiji Period(1868-1912)to the present, some of which have a connection with Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku region of Japan. The Museum also collects Western art including works by Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.

Tohoku Fukushi University Serizawa Keisuke Art and Craft Museum

Location: Sendai

Keisuke Serizawa (1895 –1984) was a Japanese textile designer. In 1956, he was designated as a Living National Treasure by the Japanese government for his katazome stencil dyeing technique. The musuem collects his artworks as well as the art & crafts which Serizawa collected from all over the world.
