A Guide to Miyagi Museums

It houses Japanese paintings, oil paintings, prints, sculputures and artistic handicrafts from the Meiji Period（1868-1912）to the present, some of which have a connection with Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku region of Japan. The Museum also collects Western art including works by Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
Keisuke Serizawa (1895 –1984) was a Japanese textile designer. In 1956, he was designated as a Living National Treasure by the Japanese government for his katazome stencil dyeing technique. The musuem collects his artworks as well as the art & crafts which Serizawa collected from all over the world.
